The Yankees don’t have an immediate need for another outfielder, but until Giancarlo Stanton returns from injury, they are fielding former Detroit Tigers outfielder Cameron Maybin in left field.  There is a possibility Nick could move back to the infield if the Yankees indeed moved Torres, Nick could play third moving All-Star D.J LeMahieu to second filling the void of Torres.

More from Detroit Jock City

Imagine Detroit moved Castellanos & Boyd for Torres the Yankee lineup they could potentially field once everyone is healthy;

  1. LeMahieu – 2B
  2. Judge- RF
  3. Encarnacion-DH
  4. Stanton-LF
  5. Gregorius- SS
  6. Sanchez -C
  7. Voit- 1B
  8. Castellanos -3B
  9. Gardner/Hicks – CF

The Detroit Tigers would be able to move on from Nick Castellanos by packaging him with Matt Boyd in a blockbuster deal for a young star second baseman. This deal would help the Yankees starting rotation plus adding a professional bat to the lineup.  Nick’s fielding ability will always be a question mark whether he’s in right-field or third base, but I believe he was a better third baseman than an outfielder. At least his experience in the outfield allows a trading team some roster flexibility.

I threw Nick in this deal, but the Yankees may rather have Shane Greene, perhaps it would take all three to land a prospect like Torres or even garner the Yankees attention.  The Detroit Tigers need a top fielding prospect, Torres would be just that; in fact, he’s clearly ready right now.  He’s a player the Detroit Tigers should feel comfortable building around.  If you can land Torres without Greene, it would allow Avila to make another move before the July 31st deadline.

If Torres doesn’t remain an option the Detroit Tigers could potentially settle for Miguel Andujar, and Clint Frazier.  Maybe the Yankees could throw in Greg Bird who’s injured but may benefit from a fresh start.
