Moving into the rotation, Casey Mize is the prized prospect for the Detroit Tigers, the number two overall prospect in the MLB according to the MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 list. He is currently also the number one ranked prospect within the Tigers farm system as it stands now.

Mize was selected round one, pick one in the 2018 draft out of Auburn University and ever since then, he’s received the most buzz of any Detroit Tigers prospect being that he is the number one ranked prospect in the Tigers farm system. The hope with Mize is that he will be the Tigers ace of the future in a farm system hoping to breed a good crop of starting pitchers.

In 2019, Mize saw six starts with the Single-A Lakeland team and was then promoted to the Double-A Erie team that perhaps has one of the best rotations of young pitchers imaginable. With Double-A Erie, Mize is 6-3 through fifteen starts with a 3.20 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, and seventy-six strikeouts through seventy-eight and two-thirds innings pitched. Mize has had some recent struggles after having some shoulder issues. However, it is nothing to fret about for the time being.

Mize is still the number two prospect in the whole MLB, and there’s a lot of time for him to go on another stretch of good starts. Worrying about his health should not be an issue. If the struggles continue, it’s something to examine, but the way things stand, Mize will continue his path of development as the number two prospect in all of the MLB.
