Alex Faedo is one of the less renowned prospects that the Detroit Tigers have in their farm system who, at one point, almost looked like nothing much but a bullpen arm. Faedo was struggling with command, but since then has turned things around and become a force with Double-A Erie.

The Detroit Tigers selected Alex Faedo in the first round of the 2017 MLB Amateur Draft, and since then he has had ups and downs but looks to have figured it out this season. The twenty-three-year-old right-handed pitcher was struggling to get things going and get a good command of a fastball. At one time, it appeared that Faedo was going to be doomed as a Luke Gregerson clone. A long reliever who relied solely on a slider/curveball as his number one pitch out of the bullpen.

After putting in work and tweaking things, Faedo has turned things around and become a force of a very scary Double-A Erie rotation that the Detroit Tigers hope stays intact all the way to the big leagues. The Tigers are looking at a very solid rotation if indeed these guys can develop into major league pitchers and consistent ones.

For the Double-A Erie squad in 2019, Faedo has gone 6-7 with a 4.01 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and 130 strikeouts through 112.1 innings pitched. Now that ERA and record are not precisely what top-tier pitching prospects should look like, but as of late he has been in a bit of a funk. In the long-term, it seems like his development has been adjusted and he could definitely find himself at the back of a Tigers rotation, or even in the bullpen if things go south as mentioned above.

The bottom line is, Faedo is one of the better Detroit Tigers pitching prospects. He has a lot of positives to him in the sense that he strikes guys out, does not walk a lot, but keeping runners off the base paths will be the name of the game for him. If Faedo can get his ERA under control, he should be a solid starter through the minors and an excellent addition to the back of the Tigers rotation.
