Detroit Tigers: Forecasting The Best Prospects At Each Position
By Tyler Kotila
Another trade acquisition, Daz Cameron, has the opportunity to become a staple center fielder for the Tigers in the future. Cameron is another instance of a former players son like Kody Clemens, being the son of former outfielder Mike Cameron.
Daz Cameron is one of the future Detroit Tigers to get excited about; he’s got a reasonably high ceiling that he can hopefully reach. Cameron is someone who uses his speed, defense, and arm to excel. Cameron’s hitting has developed slower, and the reason his ceiling is questionable. The Tigers need to hope that his time with Triple-A Toledo will allow him to finish preparing his hitting and turn himself into an everyday starting centerfielder.
Cameron has been with Triple-A Toledo all season in 2019 where he has played in 105 games. He has managed to produce a .216/.331/.378 slash line with ten home runs, thirty-six RBI, and sixteen stolen bases this season. In terms of average, Cameron is not quite where he would like to be, but with the Detroit Tigers lacking so much depth. There’s still a chance he gets to the big leagues for September call-ups.
The twenty-two-year-old is poised for a big-league appearance in hopes that his hitting will come around. The defense is there. He can track down balls, possessing good range and a decent arm. Look for Cameron to have his big league breakthrough sooner rather than later. He could turn some heads. Cameron is one of the more premier prospects in the Tigers system having the chance to exceed expectations if his hitting comes around.
