Besides Filppula excelling, Athanasiou coming into his own, the team showing growth, and Seider’s production level the Red Wings should look much better this season. Here are some more predictions for the upcoming 2019-20 NHL season.

Prediction #4: Taro Hirose makes the team and excels as a forward in his first chance at a full season with the Detroit Red Wings.

More from Detroit Jock City

Piggybacking on the prediction made in number three, Hirose has an excellent chance to see a good amount of ice time with the Red Wings this season. If he can be as dominant as he has been in the NHL Prospect Tournament, Hirose could find himself on a line with Filppula and Athanasiou setting up scoring chances in the offensive zone. Both Athanasiou and Hirose would be left-handed shooting wingers, but one could play off-hand winger and still find ways to make creative plays with the puck.

Prediction #5: Acquiring Adam Erne from the Tampa Bay Lightning pays off even if it was a minimal move, for a bottom-six forward.

Erne is the perfect example of a grinding forward who also can score goals if given a chance. Yzerman brought in Erne after he was a fan favorite with the Lightning, and it’s easy to see that Erne plays the game with physicality and provides a good defensive presence on the ice for the Red Wings.

Yes, Erne will be a bottom-six forward, but he will serve a purpose for the Wings, and it should amount to something for the team. Being able to deploy Erne as a checking third-liner who can make a spotty offensive appearance is nothing but beneficial for the Red Wings offense.

These are five predictions that leave plenty of things untouched like Joe Veleno’s season goals. Larkin’s strides to earn the captaincy, or what to expect from Jimmy Howard and Jonathan Bernier as a backup.

There are plenty of topics that go untouched in these predictions, but these are five predictions that may be a little bit out there. However, it seems that there’s enough evidence to make the claim that they all could happen.

The Detroit Red Wings organization needs to expect to see growth and prediction number one does a great job of illustrating a goal that the organization’s top executives would hopefully agree on. Only the future will hold the answers to these predictions; it’s time for fans to sit back and get ready for the regular season to inch closer and get underway.
