With the Detroit Lions enjoying an early-season bye week, it allowed plenty of the Lions faithful to be Oakland Raiders fans for the afternoon.

The Oakland Raiders squared off with the Chicago Bears in London, England, in their week five matchup.  The Bears were minus their starting quarterback Mitchell Trubisky but had a very capable backup in Chase Daniel at the helm.  In fact, there isn’t much of a drop off in production from Trubisky to Daniel.  The Detroit Lions were certainly resting, relaxing, and watching tentatively with aspirations of eventually winning the NFC North.

It was Jon Gruden without the services of his number-one receiver Tyrell Williams finding a way to beat Khalil Mack, who he’s been intensely scrutinized for trading away and the Chicago Bears. Prior to the game, Mack mentioned it was absolutely a game he had circled on the calendar.  Jon Gruden had the last laugh.

It was a Josh Jacobs day for the Oakland Raiders.

More from Detroit Jock City

The rookie runner out of Alabama galloped for 123 yards and 2 touchdowns.  He also reeled in 3 catches totaling 20 yards.  He was the focal point in the Raiders offense with Williams forced to miss the game.  Derek Carr protected the football, and although he didn’t post eye-popping passing yards, he protected the football and managed the game well.  Carr finished the day with 229 yards without a touchdown or an interception.

It appears the Chicago Bears are really missing Jordan Howard.  The Bears dealt Howard to the Philadelphia Eagles for a sixth-round pick this past offseason.  Howard has compiled 4 rushing touchdowns on the year to go with 186 yards on 40 carries this season.  He’s also scored a receiving touchdown.

In comparison, Tarik Cohen has accumulated 27 total rushing yards without a score.  He does have one touchdown and 89 yards receiving.  Rookie David Montgomery has 200 yards on the ground and one score on the season on 58 rushes.

It was much of the same for the Bears yesterday.  The Raiders bottled up the run game leaving Montgomery with 25 yards on 11 carries, Cohen 10 yards on 4 carries.  The lackluster Bears offense managed to score a pair of touchdowns way of Allen Robinson through the air.  Daniel also tossed a pair of picks.  The Raiders upset the Bears 24-21, once again leaving the NFC North open for business.

The Detroit Lions will have an opportunity to next week to cut into the Packers division lead as they head to Lambeau Field.  The Packers were able to beat the Cowboys 34-24 yesterday, even without their star receiver Devonte Adams.  The Packers are now 4-1 on the season.

After that, the Detroit Lions will host the Minnesota Vikings who looked like the team many thought they’d be yesterday routing the Giants to the tune of 28-10.  Minnesota bullied New York on the ground and air.
