The Detroit Red Wings were off to a hot start on the 2019 season, but since then, they have started to falter a bit in their more recent contests. The goaltending has not looked so great, but all around some improvements need to be made to get back into the win column.

After the Detroit Red Wings top line kicked off 2019 with scoring, scoring, and more scoring, they have quieted down. The Red Wings first three games of the season resulted in a 2-1-0 record, they would win another game and then drop their most recent two games. With the worst being the loss to the Vancouver Canucks, they have been on a downturn as of late.

It was the Canucks who exposed the Detroit Red Wings weakness as of right now, goaltending. With the Red Wings scoring seventeen goals on the season, they have had twenty-one scored against them.

Prior to last night, the most recent routing was at the hands of the Vancouver Canucks who skated to a 5-1 victory over the Red Wings, while both teams had backups in the net it did not end well for the Red Wings.

More from Detroit Jock City

Dylan Larkin scored in the first minute of the game for the Red Wings, but it would be five unanswered goals from the Canucks after that on Red Wings backup Jonathan Bernier. Neither Bernier or Jimmy Howard have been lights out so far this year, and it has cost the Red Wings.

Another issue the Red Wings have had to deal with is the lack of offense. This may seem a bit hypocritical based on the comment about the top lines’ initial prowess, but lately, the offense has been squandered. In their last three games, the Red Wings were outscored 15-4 by the opponents. It’s time to see some change and hopefully get things moving in the right direction again after the start to the season had fans excited until the success took a turn downward.

The Detroit Red Wings defense core has also seen some injuries early on with Trevor Daley on the shelf to begin the season. Defender Danny DeKeyser was a game-time decision in the Red Wings games against the Canucks and Flames, being scratched against the Canucks and playing against the Flames.

The Red Wings will look to finish out the western Canadian road trip against the Edmonton Oilers, who are on an unprecedented start to the season. Hopefully, things can make a turn, and by the time the Red Wings face the Canucks again at home on Tuesday, October 22nd, they can get back into the win column and start playing like they did to open the 2019-20 season.

The Wings lost yet again last night to the Calgary Flames 5-1.  It’s been a common theme of late.
