Kenyan Drake

I have no idea why the Detroit Lions didn’t make a trade for Kenyan Drake when he became available by the tanking Miami Dolphins, who’ve suddenly won back to back football games.

He shared the Alabama backfield with Derrick Henry and was also drafted in 2016, just one round after Derrick.  The Dolphins selected Drake with the 73rd pick in the 3rd round.  Drake is basically a carbon copy of Kerryon Johnson.

They both have a very similar skill-set.  Drake, unlike Henry, can catch the football out of the backfield.  He wouldn’t be a perfect complement to Johnson, but the playbook wouldn’t need to be altered what so ever for either back.

The only reason I see Bob Quinn not making a move for Drake before the trade deadline this season was perhaps he was unwilling to trade a 6th round pick for a rental player.  The Detroit Lions also may feel that rookie Ty Johnson can provide the same production Drake would.

Drake is still an option this offseason if he doesn’t price himself out of the market.  He’s not lead back material but would be a perfect depth back alongside the Johnson’s in Detroit.

He’s recorded 551 total yards in 8 games this season between Miami and Arizona, scoring just 1 touchdown.
