Needless to say, like all of the other professional sports teams in this city, I’ve been disappointed with the 2019 Detroit Pistons to this point in the season. They have time to turn things around, and I’m here to focus on three things we need to be thankful for on this great holiday.

The Detroit Pistons limped their way through the first month of the season without their superstar forward Blake Griffin.  After what I thought to be a spectacular offseason conducted by Pistons ‘interim’ general manager Ed Stefanski, the Pistons have yet to live up to expectations.

First off, can we kick the term interim now?  Ed Stefanski should be safe as the teams GM until further notice. But I will say a lot will depend on how he handles the Drummond/Jackson situations down the stretch.  The Pistons can’t afford to let both players walk in free agency without getting some sort of return.

Entering the season, the Detroit Pistons overhauled the bottom half of their roster, adding Markieff Morris, Tony Snell, Christian Wood, Tim Frazier, and the most significant move, adding former league MVP Derrick Rose.

Throwing those names into a blender with Blake Griffin, Andre Drummond, Luke Kennard, and Reggie Jackson should translate to more wins than last season, right?  Not so fast.  The Pistons are off to a mediocre 6-11 start to the season prior to last night’s game. When you are losing two games for everyone that you win, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out; they aren’t playing good basketball.

I expected a .500 record and a 6th or 7th seed in the Eastern Conference.  It’s still possible, but as the losses continue to mount, the outlook continues to darken.  Detroit may remain on the outside looking in unless they start stacking wins.

Here are three things to be thankful for in ’19.
