Reason #2: The Tigers have the first overall pick in the 2020 MLB Amateur First-Year Player Draft

With the fifth overall draft pick in the 2019 MLB Amateur First-Year Player Draft, the Tigers selected Riley Greene. This past summer, Greene turned some heads even after some skepticism and criticism around his selection.

This year, the Tigers will get to have the very first pick of the cream of the crop for all talent in the 2020 draft class. This will add, hopefully, yet another generational talent to the Tigers farm system. The Tigers will get their shot at an Adley Rutschmann like the Baltimore Orioles got this season, which was highly touted all winter and spring.

It’s early on, but one name that has been circled as a top name in the draft is Arizona State University slugger Spencer Torkelson. The NCAA slugger has quite the amount of pop in his bat and has been lethal for the Sun Devils at the college level and Tigers fans may hope to see him in a Tigers uniform one day in the 2020 season treats him the same as the last few seasons.

A lot can change between the winter and draft day, but the Tigers having the first overall pick will not. Fans should be thankful that the organization will be welcoming a supposed generational talent this coming June.
