Detroit Lions: Six Players to Target in the 2020 NFL Draft
By Bob Heyrman
Derrick Brown
Derrick Brown is a bit of a dark horse but a tremendous talent that shouldn’t be overlooked even as high as the third overall pick.
The Auburn Tigers star defensive tackle will be selected in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft. At the moment, he’s expected to go in the middle of round one. With the Detroit Lions likely moving on from A’Shawn Robinson, Derrick Brown may be the perfect replacement.
Brown could upgrade Detroit’s defensive line and may benefit from learning alongside Damon Harrison. Harrison, after signing a one-year extension this past offseason, which extended him through the 2021 season, seemed to regress this season drastically.
Derrick would have the opportunity to excel in the future being that anchor in the middle of Detroit’s defense long after Harrison has moved on.
Brown is 6’4 and plays around 320-pounds has produced 50 tackles, 4 sacks, 2 fumbles forced, and 4 passes batted down at the line of scrimmage.
For the people that wanted the Detroit Lions to select Ed Oliver last season, here is the perfect solution and perhaps a better one.
A player of his size doesn’t always move well, but Brown regularly demonstrates excellent agility, and he explodes off of the football. He’s a player that plays through the whistle, doesn’t take plays off and is a great tackler. Behind Chase Young, he’s the best pure defensive prospect. Expect Brown’s stock to rise leading up to the draft and someone, the Detroit Lions, will be considering.
