The Detroit Red Wings should try and move goaltender Jonathan Bernier to the Carolina Hurricanes, who are without their Petr Mrazek and James Reimer.

General Manager of the Detroit Red Wings, Steve Yzerman, should use this as an opportunity to try and move Jonathan Bernier to the Hurricanes who may be in the market for goaltender after the recent injuries. Bernier has played his way into the starting job during the 2019-20 season after Jimmy Howard has just fallen off as goaltender with horrific stats this year. In thirty-eight games, Bernier 13-18-2 with a 2.89 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage on the season for the Red Wings.

In their most recent contest, the Carolina Hurricanes were forced to use goaltender David Ayres as an emergency goalie after both Petr Mrazek and James Reimer sustained injuries. The Hurricanes are trying to remain in the playoff race and make a run this postseason, but the injuries have been a real killer for the team. The Hurricanes are already without stud defenseman Dougie Hamilton who has a fracture in his leg that will keep him out for the foreseeable future.

Bernier has one more year left on his contract, which would keep him with the Hurricanes through the 2020-21 season (providing they traded for him). Both of their current goalies, Reimer and Mrazek, are under contract through the 2020-21 season as well, so they would most likely end up moving one of the goalies eventually.

Now, Bernier may not be the best goaltender on the market with players like Alexandar Georgiev from the New York Rangers being sought after by most teams, but the Hurricanes may want to stay on the cheap end.

The Hurricanes are going to be hurting if they are without both of their goalies, or even without Mrazek or Reimer for an extended period. If the team is looking to add some help, the Red Wings could also send veteran defenseman Mike Green in the trade as well. If the Hurricanes are that desperate to stay as a contender, they may be interested in a package that sends them Bernier and a defenseman to add some depth.

light. Trending. Four players that could be traded

With the Hurricanes’ latest injuries, hopefully, the Red Wings can capitalize and move Bernier if they are interested. Bringing in any return would be beneficial for the Red Wings. With the crop of players who the Detroit Red Wings are going to be able to move thinning as the deadline nears, hopefully, one of the players who have trade value, Bernier, can be the guy who nets the Red Wings an excellent return.
