Detroit Tigers 2020 MLB Draft: Spencer Torkelson selected first overall

The Detroit Tigers have selected first baseman Spencer Torkelson with the first overall draft pick.
The 2020 MLB Draft has officially begun as the Detroit Tigers have selected Spencer Torkelson with the first overall selection, ending all of the rumors surrounding the first overall draft pick. Torkelson has been the guy it seems for a while, but the Tigers have kicked off the draft in style.
Torkelson is an exceptional pick for the Tigers who’s night one of the 2020 MLB Draft is going to be over quickly now that they have made their selection. But the power-hitting first baseman is going to be able to get into the organization and rise quickly with his tools being so strong.
In this draft, things are unique with a five-round draft instead of forty, so having a productive draft is going to be crucial for this rebuild. Adding in Torkelson with the first overall draft pick allows the Tigers to get off to an excellent start with a phenomenal draft class.

Off the top of the head, it is easy to see how Torkelson is going to be a fantastic addition to the Tigers organization for his abilities on the field.
His power and prowess with the bat in the box are what drives him to be a future player, similar to Pete Alonso.
This will be the first time that a first baseman has been drafted first overall in the MLB Draft, Torkelson makes history for the Tigers who found their guy.
Torkelson will pair nicely with last year’s first overall selection, Riley Greene, who was taken sixth overall out of high school. He will be able to get to the big leagues sooner than most first overall picks, and he may be big-league ready in a shortened.
Off the field, Torkelson’s personality has been ranted and raved about across almost all the draft coverage. Bringing in a player like Torkelson with a good character is only going to be beneficial for the future of the rebuild.
