The Detroit Tigers have officially come to terms of a contract with the first overall draft pick Spencer Torkelson.

A few weeks after the Detroit Tigers spent the first overall selection on third baseman Spencer Torkelson. One day before the resumption of baseball they came to an agreement with their first overall selection in a record-setting contract.

The deal with Torkelson is record-setting after he topped the 2019 record that was set by the Baltimore Orioles and catcher Adley Rutschman. Torkelson signed for an $8,416,300 signing bonus.

Torkelson makes history but topping Rutschman by only $1,000 and also is the most that a first overall selection has ever gotten. The Tigers believe they have something special, which they do and he was compensated that way even in a time where most big-league organizations claim things are tough.

The Tigers are looking at the third baseman/first baseman of the future when it comes to Torkelson. The talent level that Torkelson has will only benefit him on a quick development path to the big leagues, sooner than expected.

With the strange aspects that have made the 2020 big league season unique, Torkelson is expected to be added to one of the remaining spots on the 60-man player pool for 2020.

This would be phenomenal for the organization and for Torkelson to keep his development in motion.

The way things seem, Torkelson will have a quick rise to the big leagues and be able to showcase his stuff sooner than most would expect once he gets to the big leagues. This signing of Torkelson just finally gave the kid his money as he officially joins the Tigers organization.

Honestly, the future is bright with Torkelson and he is going to be an integral part of the organization’s future as a new era of competitions come in. There is a lot to be excited about, his official signing which is no shock should signal the start of something special.

Now the sights can be set on the 2020 big league season to see what happens with the Detroit Tigers organization. On top of that, keep an eye on how Torkelson and the other prospects do at the training camp in Toledo during the 2020 season, that is, if Torkelson is appointed.

The 2020 season is going to be unique, so seeing Torkelson in a Tigers uniform is not out of the question. It could lead to a unique opportunity for Torkelson if he does get a chance to compete at the big league level.
