The Detroit Tigers are approaching 2020 Opening Day, take a look at three position players poised for a breakout season.

As summer camp continues and eventually winds down, the Detroit Tigers are prepping for a 60-game sprint season. They kick things off July 24th against the Cincinnati Reds, which is under two weeks away now.

They have some time until Opening Day, but the players need to be ready to go. There are plenty of players who are going to get playing time during the 2020 season due to a multitude of things. The Player Pool allows the Tigers to make sure they have enough players ready to go given any circumstance.

Given the short season, more players will want/need an off-day here and there, depth on both sides of the ball is going to be crucial. While the Tigers may not be focused on being competitive, the 2020 season is the perfect time for guys to showcase their development amid the rebuild.

While the hitters continue to get loose and ready for the 2020 season, keep an eye on Niko Goodrum, Victor Reyes, and Christin Stewart. These players may not be the top prospects like Riley Greene or Spencer Torkelson, but they are on the big league roster, now.

The organization is in the midst of a full-blown rebuild that is far from over, but these guys can prove they belong. Every competitive team has its veteran players, and every rebuild needs those veteran guys. While these players are young now, they can show they belong here for the future.

Especially looking at someone like Niko Goodrum, who started that upward trend last season, 2020 could be his chance to show an emergence as a big leaguer. Christin Stewart is on the chopping block, needing to finally break through and become the hitter he is supposed to be.

Reyes was a former Rule-5 selection that has blossomed into one of the Tigers’ everyday guys who looks to show he belongs there while the top prospects continue on their “Road to Detroit.” The 2020 season could do great things for this rebuild if the Tigers can maintain the focus on development.

While there will be challenges that will make the 2020 season interesting in itself, there are positives that can come from it. Excellent 60-game campaigns from guys like Goodrum, Reyes, Stewart only bodes well for the future as the youngsters start finding their way to the big leagues.
