Detroit Tigers: 3 position players to watch during 2020 shortened season
By Tyler Kotila
When Detroit Tigers outfielder Christin Stewart came up there was a ton of hype surrounding him, nowadays, not so much, but could 2020 change this?
The Detroit Tigers selected Christin Stewart in the first round of the 2015 MLB First-Year Amateur Player Draft, and he immediately accrued plenty of hype around him as a prospect. However, in his first full season with the Tigers, he did not live up to this hype.
Initially, Stewart got off to a hot start for the Tigers, looking like he was going to be dominant in the batter’s box, eventually finishing off the year with mediocre numbers. In 2019, Stewart played in 104 games, where he hit .233/.305/.388 with ten home runs and 40 RBI on the season.
He has only played in one “full season” in the big leagues, but this shortened 2020 season will be a perfect opportunity for Stewart to try and get things rolling in the batters’ box. The ideal scenario for the twenty-five-year-old would be a much better approach at the plate.

In 2019, Stewart struck out 103 times, and it would be nice to see him piece together an approach that showcases his power more.
The Tigers have some outfield prospects who will be quite exciting to watch in the future, but hopefully, Stewart gets things going.
With all the hype Stewart had coming into the big leagues, it would be nice to see it pay off for him.
Stewart is heading into just his second full season with the Tigers organization, and this is a chance for him to escape the chopping block, avoid getting under pressure from the organization, and come into his own.
In an ideal world, this 60-game stretch will be a perfect time for Stewart to establish himself as a corner outfielder for the Tigers for the time being. His defense is not the best, having moved him to the outfield from first base, but now is a good a time as ever to make improvements.
Hopefully, not only Stewart, but Goodrum, Reyes, and the rest of the Detroit Tigers can formulate strong 2020 campaigns during the shortened 60-game 2020 season.
