The Detroit Tigers have announced some groundbreaking news, recalling Casey Mize, Isaac Paredes, and Tarik Skubal from the alternate training site.

With one the latest announcement from Detroit Tigers General Manager (GM) Al Avila stating that Casey Mize needs more time, there was an outcry. Today, he contradicted those statements in his zoom session with the media, where Avila dropped the bombshell announcement.

Avila announced that the Detroit Tigers are calling up pitchers Casey Mize and Tarik Skubal, as well as infielder Isaac Paredes. The number one overall pick in 2018 gets his turn as the #FreeCaseyMize trend must have done a number on Al.

But on a real note, the consistent outcry and annoyance from fans must have lead Avila to take a step back on his recent statements. Though service time is one of the worst things ever, Avila did his part in manipulating it for at least this season, getting Mize’s extra year of eligibility.

Looking beyond Mize, the Tigers called up the once-dark horse prospect, Tarik Skubal, a former ninth-round draft pick.

Skubal is now one of the Tigers premier pitching prospects, and he will get his chance to go out on the mound and shove against the Chicago White Sox.

On top of dropping the bombshell that these two starters were coming up, it was announced that they are already going to be able to get these guys onto the mound as quickly as tomorrow.

Skubal is slated to be Tuesday’s starter against the White Sox, and then Mize will make his debut on Wednesday.

Besides the two starters, Avila also announced that the organization was going to designate Dawel Lugo for assignment (DFA).

Following the DFA of Lugo, Avila announced that the organization was bringing up Isaac Paredes to join the roster and make his big league debut. It seems they’d rather have Paredes take his shot in the infield than Lugo.

The Tigers are not just tip-toeing into the water with their prospects; they brought up three of them, all big-name players to make their debuts. Mize is the number eight prospect listed on MLB Pipeline’s top 100 list.

Skubal’s name is also on the top 100 list, settling in just outside the top 50, coming in ranked at 51 on the list. Paredes may not have been ranked but has just as much hype around him as he made his way through the ranks.

He has been one of the more exciting prospects the Tigers have in the batters’ box; his debut will be just as exciting as the two pitchers. It is just a fantastic feeling for the fanbase to see Avila go out and make some big moves by calling up the prized prospects.
