Round 3, Pick 63: Donovan Sebrango, Defenseman, Kitchener Rangers (OHL)

The Red Wings kicked off the third round by selecting Canadian defenseman Donovan Sebrango who comes from the Kitchener Rangers of the OHL. Sebrango is an eighteen-year-old, 6-foot-1, 183-pound build who makes smart decisions on when to pinch or step-up.

He plays heads up hockey, is smart in the defensive zone, and finds his way into the play into the offensive zone. He is more of a playmaker in the offensive zone, but he puts the puck in the net on occasion.

In 56 games in the OHL with the Rangers last season, Sebrango managed six goals and 24 assists for 30 points on the season. In 2018-19 during his first year in the OHL, Sebrango would score seven goals and add 19 assists for 26 total points in his first go-round in Kitchener.

The pick seems like another, high-upside guy who could develop a shot, grow into his body, and become a special teams asset with second pairing upside in the future.

***Round 3, Pick 65: Traded to the Minnesota Wild for two selections, as mentioned on the first slide.***

Round 3, Pick 70 (Acquired from Wild): Eemil Viro, Defenseman, TPS (Finnish- Liiga)

The Red Wings would return to the Scandinavian talent pools to select defenseman Eemil Viro with their second selection of the third round after completing the trade with the Wild. Viro is of Finnish descent, playing his amateur days with the TPS program in Finland.

The eighteen-year-old is a left-handed shooting defenseman who stands 6-foot even, weighing in at 168 pounds. The Finnish defender has not found his way onto the scoresheet very much during his time with TPS in the Finnish Liiga.

In 2019-20, Viro played in 29 games at the Liiga level, posting just three assists for three total points on the season. He notched one goal, and five assists for six points at the junior SM-Liiga level on 15 games played last season as well.

For now, Viro is playing for TPS in the Liiga once again; he will likely be kept over there as they monitor his development. Even as a smaller body, Viro is not afraid to throw around the body and show some physicality.
