DE: Everson Griffen

Everson Griffen had been a player I had hoped the Detroit Lions targeted during the summer after the veteran defensive end and long-time Minnesota Viking had been released due to salary restrictions.

After a long, drawn-out wait, Griffen opted to sign with the Dallas Cowboys, a one-year $6-million deal but hasn’t turned in a stellar season with his new club.  Griffen has recorded three sacks and 19 tackles.  It’s too early to give up on Griffen entirely, but his best days appear to be behind him.

According to Pro Football Focus (PFF), Griffen has earned an overall grade of 56.6, with a pass rush of 61.8.

The soon to be 33-year old end could still have a role with the Detroit Lions, especially in a rotational role.  The Detroit Lions are finally getting consistent production from Romeo Okwara opposite Trey Flowers, but adding a player like Griffen for a mere $3-million for the remainder of the season will only benefit the organization.  Detroit should have an opportunity to land Griffen for a late draft pick.

But for the record, Okwara is coming off of a stellar performance in Atlanta, where he recorded a pair of sacks along with a forced fumble.
