The Detroit Red Wings better have a “C” on Dylan Larkin’s jersey in 2020-21, finally awarding the forward with the captaincy.

For the Detroit Red Wings, the 2020-21 season will mark the first time being back on the ice since March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The offseason has been exceptional, and there are just a few more things to do to complete this process.

Up next on the docket should be the awarding of the captaincy to Dylan Larkin. It’s been a long time coming, and Larkin deserves his chance to wear the “C” and embody the captain’s role for the Red Wings.

Larkin has been the captain in waiting for some time now, and it seems that Steve Yzerman will finally hand out the “C” ahead of the 2020-21 season. Yzerman had commented on the idea of naming a captain back in May, claiming that it would be done before the start of the upcoming 2020-21 season.

As the 2020-21 season is approaching, Larkin should be getting his chance to embrace and embody what it means to be a captain for the Red Wings organization. Who better to learn from then Yzerman?

The Red Wings have not had a captain since Henrik Zetterberg hung up his skates and called it a career.

They rolled with only alternate captains after Zetterberg retired, and now it seems like Larkin getting the “C” will mark a new era for the Red Wings.

Larkin is 24 years old, heading into his sixth season in the National Hockey League (NHL) and with the Red Wings organization. Larkin played in all 71 games of the Red Wings 2019-20 campaign this past season, scoring 19 goals and tallying 34 assists for 53 total points.

He has grown into the organization’s top center, a leader on and off the ice, and arguably the top player. Yzerman needs to sit down with Larkin, award him the “C,” and hopefully truly instill the values he’s looking for from Larkin as captain of this team.

Yzerman is a hero for this organization, and if he can sit down with Larkin and make sure that he understands what is required as a leader for this organization. The new era of the Larkin captaincy will be an exciting one, what better chance than letting him start as captain in the 2020-21 season.
