Good Luck In the Lottery

A couple of years in the future, this Pistons season could end up being judged solely on how lucky they get in the lottery. The 2021 draft class is stacked, and there are a few players who could be franchise players for a decade. Cade Cunningham tops the list as a 6’8 guard with elite scoring ability, passing skills, and basketball IQ. Jalen Suggs is another guard.

Suggs is a great athlete who uses it to score at the rim and hound ballhandlers on defense. Both are point guards like last year’s lottery pick Hayes, but they have enough scoring punch to play in two-point guard lineups with Hayes. Evan Mobley is a modern-day big who can do a little bit of everything. Defensively, he is quick enough to defend on the perimeter but has the size to defend the rim.

He can handle the ball a little, face-up, pass, and shoot from the outside on offense. Watching him and Hayes run the pick and rolls for the foreseeable future would be a treat for Pistons’ fans. He really has all the tools to be a successful center in a guards league. There are other extremely talented players, but the top 3 guys would be dreams come true for the Pistons. Detroit fans are not used to luck going their way, but a good lottery pick this year would go a long way to helping reverse the Detroit Pistons’ odds.

The Detroit Pistons did not have a great decade with 0 playoff wins and no hope for the future. With their luck the past 10 years, the Pistons are due for some good luck. With the start of Trey Weaver’s era of the Pistons, there is some serious hope for the team’s future, and with some luck, they can turn the team ahead of schedule.

For this year, healthy and productive seasons from Blake Griffin and Derrick Rose should help the team grow and find their groove. Their health can allow the young players to grow and hopefully even have some of them to exceed expectations.

These will be great in the short term, but the most important thing is that the Detroit Pistons can find a young talent with superstar potential. It might take some holiday magic for a Detroit sports team to catch a break right now, but Detroit sports fans know how to be hopeful.
