Christmas wish #1: For the Detroit Tigers to re-sign C.J. Cron and Jonathan Schoop for the 2021 season.

The Detroit Tigers need to stop mulling around this offseason and set their lineup straight for 2021. Quit playing around to end up having to sign a couple of terrible signings for $1.25 million a pop.

Re-sign C.J. Cron and Jonathan Schoop, locking down a part of their infield for the 2021 season, and yes, this leaves a chance for Miguel Cabrera to play the field once in a while as he has been advocating with new coach A.J. Hinch.

There’s a bit to unpack here, but it really is a Christmas wish to re-sign Cron, but he deserves the chance to prove himself with the Tigers after an injury cut his 2020 season short. He had shown some real pop and is a stellar defender, give him a chance. He produced a .190/.346/.548 with four home runs and eight RBI through 13 games played.

He was a good personality in the clubhouse, someone who can work with the youngsters; signing Cron back leads to a plethora of conversations being opened up. Schoop was phenomenal over at second base during the 2020 season.

Schoop hit .278/.324/.475 with eight home runs and 23 RBI over 44 games played in 2020. He has been a solid infielder for this organization and deserves to be brought back and given another chance in 2021.

Both of these guys could be given the same contracts they were given in 2020, and no one should bat an eye. Even coming off of an injury, Cron could be given $6.1 million on a one-year deal; if it goes sideways, no harm, no foul because he walks after 2021.

For Christmas, General Manager (GM) Al Avila needs to send two contracts out to Cron and Schoop to ensure the fans get their Christmas wish by the time the first pitch is thrown in 2021.
