The Detroit Red Wings will rely on Anthony Mantha during the 2020-21 season.

The 2020-21 season is approaching for the Detroit Red Wings as training camp is now underway at Little Caesars Arena in Hockeytown. The Red Wings finished dead last in goals for during the 2019-20 season, but 2020-21 will be a far cry from that (hopefully.)

The Red Wings firepower comes from Tyler Bertuzzi, Dylan Larkin, and Anthony Mantha, who are the organization’s top three forwards. The rest of the forwards that fill out their top-six help them produce points, but those three are the undisputed top of the leaderboard when it comes to their offensive production.

In 2020-21 expect Mantha to carry the offense in terms of goal-scoring. Not that Larkin cannot be the guy who makes it happen, it just seems like Mantha will be the main source of goal scoring on that top line and on the Red Wings offense overall.

More from Detroit Jock City

Earlier this offseason, Mantha signed a four-year, $22.8 million contract extension with the Red Wings, where he will take home $5.7 million annually.

With his contract taken care of for four years, fans can sit back and enjoy Mantha’s on-ice success this season.

The 26-year-old forward seemed like he was going to go on a tear in 2019-20 if it weren’t for Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jake Muzzin who put him on the injured list for approximately two months.

Mantha would return in February, but then the season would get cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic that kept the Red Wings off the ice for nine months during their extended offseason.

In 2019-20, Mantha managed to play in 43 games where he scored 16 goals and 22 assists for 38 points.

Mantha has not cracked 50 points yet in his career, but he has not played a full season. He did play 80 games in 2017-18, but the hope is that Mantha can tap into this offense and be a true threat for this rebuilding Red Wings team during the 2020-21 season.

Being quite optimistic for Mantha, expecting a 30-goal and 25-assist season to break previous thresholds and produce 55 total points for the Red Wings organization. The Red Wings should expect growth from Mantha, and he appeared to be coming into his own.

Last year in two games past the halfway mark of a full season, Mantha was on pace for 32 goals and 44 assists for 76 total points if he stayed on that track without his missed time due to injury. Mantha is a stud; he has proved he can be effective for this horrific Red Wings team and still find a way to put the puck in the net.

The reasoning for picking him to excel and be a stud in 2020-21 is because he found ways to score on last year’s horrifying team; this year, he should be able to score just as much with all the new additions, if not more.
