Detroit Red Wings: 3 players to watch in second Red vs White scrimmage
By Tyler Kotila
The Detroit Red Wings have their second Red versus White scrimmage today; here are three players to watch!
On January 14th, the Detroit Red Wings will kick off their regular season against the Carolina Hurricanes. Before then, the Red Wings will have two more scrimmages through the remainder of training camp.
The first one took place earlier this week, and frankly, it was nice to see the Red Wings on the ice in a competitive game-like atmosphere rather than just practices. There were plenty of observations that gave some more perspective about how the roster will look for the 2020-21 season.
The Red Wings have not been on the ice as a team since March of 2020, meaning there have been some changes. Not just signings and acquisitions, but these guys have been off the ice, away from one another for the most part.
A shortened season and shortened training camp also means the Red Wings have to sync things up quickly before the puck drops to start the regular season. Today, the Red Wings will have their second Team Red versus Team White scrimmage, which will be live-streamed for fans.
The first scrimmage included three periods, a five-minute three-on-three overtime period, and a penalty awarded shootout for the fans. Friday’s scrimmage could bring something similar, but either way, it is nice to see the team playing actual games with “referees” rather than just practicing.
That being said, here are three (technically four) Detroit Red Wings players that fans should keep their eyes on during the second scrimmage!
