Detroit Red Wings: 3 players to watch in second Red vs White scrimmage
By Tyler Kotila
Goaltenders Jonathan Bernier and Thomas Greiss
Lastly, this is technically two players, not just one goalie. But both netminders should be under microscopes by the fanbase. New addition Thomas Greiss is settling into what will likely be the 1B role in the 1A/1B scenario that is coming into focus.
Jonathan Bernier and Greiss both came up with some good stops in the first Red vs White scrimmage. Both of these netminders are competing to prove they can be the starter if called upon by Blashill, though the tandem will likely split time, Bernier most likely has the edge to start 2020-21.
Both of these goalies may not play the whole game, though they both did during the first scrimmage, fans will have to watch and see. However, if either of them is in net, keep an eye on them to see how they do in the second scrimmage between Team Red and Team White!

The two should create a much better goaltending tandem for this organization during the 2020-21 season than was on the ice in 2019-20.
While, yes, Bernier was basically the Red Wings’ team MVP in 2019-20, he started the year as the backup.
His counterpart, Jimmy Howard, fell apart and led to his time with the Red Wings coming to an end after his contract ran out.
Overall, fans should just be excited to watch some Red Wings hockey once again! It is exhilarating to watch the Red Wings players out on the ice together once again. It may not be as fast-paced and competitive as normal NHL games, but with no preseason, it’s the next closest thing.
So, Red Wings fans, tune in for puck drop sometime in the morning or afternoon at Little Caesars Arena. The Red Wings post updates to Twitter so keep an eye out for updates and links to stream!
