The Detroit Red Wings are reaping the benefits of forward Bobby Ryan and his one-year contract early on in this season. He has been off to a red hot start, lightning the lamp and helping keep the Red Wings in games more often than not.

Oddly enough, the Red Wings have been able to see Ryan make franchise history. Ryan is the first player to score four goals in the first three games he has played with the organization. No other Red Wings player has accomplished this.

Ryan signed a one-year, $1 million contract this past offseason, courtesy of General Manager (GM) Steve Yzerman. According to Ryan from a postgame interview, Yzerman is the reason that he came to Detroit.

When asked why he came to Detroit, he began his answer with “Steve Yzerman,” which should leave every Red Wings fan excited for the future. If Ryan continues to play the way he had early on in 2020-21, he will easily be the organization’s best addition from this past offseason.

The Detroit Red Wings got it right investing in Bobby Ryan; the red hot start has him making franchise history already.

More from Detroit Jock City

In just three games of the 2020-21 season, the Detroit Red Wings have gotten four goals out of Bobby Ryan in his path to etch his name into Red Wings history.

While this feat is not a Stanley Cup, a 40-goal season, or an Art Ross award, it is a huge step for Ryan.

In 2019-20, Ryan took home the Masterton Trophy. This is given to the player who exhibits perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to the game.

Ryan has had his issues with substance abuse (alcohol), but he returned to the ice and played for the Senators in 2019-20.

But, a year later, in 2020-21, Ryan has turned over a new leaf. He has overcome adversity and battled back.

It has not been the easiest road, but the on-ice performance would appear that Ryan has settled in nicely with his new organization.

Earlier this offseason, Detroit Jock City Co-Expert Bob Heyrman wrote that Ryan could be a fifteen-goal scorer in 2020-21. That prediction looks much more likely after the start that he has had to the 2020-21 season.

The Red Wings are off to a better start than most would expect, being 2-2-0. The hope should be that Ryan’s hot start in 2020-21 can be continued throughout the rest of this 56-game season.
