With the release of Baseball America’s Top 100 Prospects List($), five Detroit Tigers prospects made the cut. In fact, all five of the Tigers who made the cut were in the top 50, the top 31 to be exact.

The 2021 season is approaching for the Detroit Tigers, and as Spring Training creeps closer, prospect lists go up left and right, giving fans a better idea of what the future of the organization looks like.

Most fans would agree that the Tigers’ future is moving an upward trend. After a first overall selection in Spencer Torkelson from the 2020 First-Year Amateur Player Draft and the fifth overall selection of Riley Greene in 2019, the Tigers’ future is exciting.

Last year in 2020, the Tigers called up Casey Mize and Tarik Skubal to make their big-league debuts, and they managed to make the top prospect lists once again, heading into their first full season.

Take a brief look into the five Detroit Tigers prospects who were named to Baseball America’s Top 100 list for 2021.

#5 Spencer Torkelson – 3B/RHH

First up and highest on the list at number five is Detroit Tigers 2020 first overall selection, Spencer Torkelson. Torkelson was selected out of Arizona State University and immediately announced as a third baseman though he was raved about as a first baseman.

Torkelson’s bat is the key component to his makeup, but the kid is an athlete and will be a phenomenal big-leaguer when he comes to that level. His abilities at the plate could be compared to Pete Alonso as he came up through the minors and into the big leagues. The power is there, and the Tigers have some real talent in Torkelson.

The Tigers are banking on Torkelson being “the guy” for their offense in this rebuild. The hope is that the number five ranked prospect should be able to live up to that hype.
