The Detroit Tigers brought in catcher Wilson Ramos this offseason, which was a cheap deal that prolongs the Tigers’ future behind the dish. The two young guns who have a shot at being mainstays are not there yet; even with Jake Rogers already debuting in the big leagues, he was not ready.

But the bigger question begging to be asked is if Wilson Ramos will be able to handle the young pitching staff that the Tigers are going to feature. After the Detroit Tigers signed Ramos, the Detroit Free Press quoted him as capable of handling young pitching.

Ramos is a veteran catcher who has been around the league, and he should be able to do well with the youth of this pitching staff. The rotation will have Casey Mize and Tarik Skubal leading the way as a part of the youth movement. However, Spencer Turnbull is still a younger pitcher in this rotation as well.

On top of that, some younger pitchers are likely to break through the ice and make it to the big leagues from the minors. For example, Matt Manning is likely to get a look in the majors at this point during the 2021 season.

As the 2021 season approaches, the Detroit Tigers will see Wilson Ramos emerge as a solid backstop when it comes to handling the staff.

More from Detroit Tigers

The Detroit Tigers are looking to show some improvement in 2021, and the youth movement in their pitching staff is going to be the centerpiece of that.

Ramos should be able to work with the pitching staff and help the young pitchers develop at the big league level.

For those Tigers fans missing the glory days, think of Justin Verlander always wanting Alex Avila behind the dish to catch for him.

If Ramos can be the guy who works well with the young talent, then the Tigers are in good hands. The Tigers should have the future of their backstops in the minors. Jake Rogers has not proven that he can make it to the big leagues successfully. But Dillon Dingler is going to be someone to keep an eye on as well.

For the time being, Ramos is going to be holding down the catching duties, and the hope is that he will start getting to know his young pitchers and be able to be “the guy” for the Tigers pitching staff.
