Deshaun Watson’s status plays a big role in the Detroit Lions 2021 NFL Draft plans.

However, as this offseason has progressed, I have developed the notion that Detroit should pass on a QB in this year’s draft. It’s not due to a lack of talent. It is because we need to make some gains elsewhere on the roster.

Goff is almost a shoo-in to be our starter for the next two seasons with his current contract.

I can say without any hesitation that this year’s offseason has already been one of the more memorable ones of my lifetime. Besides the trade we talked about for a majority of this article, Carson Wentz was also recently dealt to the Indianapolis Colts.

I don’t think we have seen the last of the trade wheel spinning either.

It’s widely reported that Deshaun Watson wants out of Houston, and the Texans may finally be considering moving him. Other rumored landing spots include the Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos, San Francisco 49ers, and Miami Dolphins.

I mention this because when that domino falls, the Lions may be able to start thinking of realistic ways that the NFL Draft plays out. The Panthers currently possess the No. 8 overall pick, and the Broncos have No. 9.

Both teams need a quarterback better than the one they currently have, and both have been vocal that they planned to go after one.

Sorry, Teddy Bridgewater and Drew Lock.

If Watson is traded to either team, they will be out of the running for a quarterback when draft day rolls around. However, if they don’t, they may both be looking to move up for one of the remaining in the ’21 draft class.
