Things change daily in the NFL, so ideas today may just be an afterthought by next week, depending on recent transactions.  It takes just one trade within the top ten to throw a wrench into everyone’s mock drafts.  I feel that the NFL Network’s insider, Daniel Jeremiah, hit the nail on the head when it comes to the Detroit Lions in his latest prediction.

In his latest NFL Mock Draft, Jeremiah has the Lions selecting quarterback Justin Fields out of Ohio State.

Jeremiah has four quarterbacks taken in a row to start the 2021 NFL Draft.  No surprises early with Trevor Lawrence followed by Zach Wilson going to Jacksonville and the Jets.  That is accompanied by 49ers selecting Mac Jones, and if you went back just a month ago, many experts had Jones as the fifth-ranked quarterback in the draft class.

If true, that selection of Jones to the 49ers opens the door for the Detroit Lions to land Justin Fields.

This is followed by the Atlanta Falcons passing on Fields to take Trey Lance.  Atlanta mentioned they are open for business when it comes to the fourth overall pick.  That tells me they are not entirely committed to taking a quarterback here, but they should be in the market selecting this high in the draft, especially with Matt Ryan showing signs of decline at 36-years old.

At five, Jeremiah has the Bengals selecting tight end Kyle Pitts.  It would be a bold choice after quarterback Joe Burrow recently lobbied for the organization to pick his college teammate Ja’Marr Chase.  Chase, in recent days also mentioned he’d like to play in Cincinnati with Burrow.

Then it’s Miami on the clock with the sixth pick, and this is where Jeremiah has the aforementioned Chase landing, which leaves the Lions with a tough decision to make.
