As the Detroit Red Wings play out the last few games of their season, defenseman Filip Hronek will be fighting to add just one more point to his credit. Currently, Hronek is tied for the team’s top point-getter with Dylan Larkin.

The Detroit Red Wings captain, Larkin, sustained an upper-body injury after Jamie Benn cross-checked him in the neck in a contest a few weeks back. Larkin will miss the rest of the season, halting him at 23 total points.

Hronek also sits at 23 points and will be fighting to get himself above that 23-point mark in these last few games.  The Red Wings have four games left, and Hronek needs just one point to notch himself above as the top point-getter.

The next highest-scoring player is Anthony Mantha, who was traded to the Washington Capitals at the trade deadline, bringing the Czech Connection into fruition when Jakub Vrana was acquired. But besides that, Adam Erne is at 19 points, and Robby Fabbri & Filip Zadina are tied at 18 points apiece.

Detroit Red Wings defenseman Filip Hronek is looking to close the 2020-21 season out as the top scorer with more than 23 points.

More from Detroit Jock City

Hronek has logged a total of 52 games this season for the Red Wings, where he has two goals and 21 assists for his 23 points.

He may not have found the back of the net a whole lot, but he has the most points on the Red Wings alongside Larkin, whose season was ended.

The hope for Hronek is that he can be the top pairing guy until Moritz Seider, Albert Johansson, Jared McIsaac, and company finally reach the Red Wings roster.

Hronek could comfortably be a second-pairing defender, and being the top-scorer for a team, even rebuilding is worth noting.

The confidence that Hronek could get might be a nice boost for the Czech defender.  Hronek is a playmaking defender who is smart with the puck and has proven that he can make things happen and find the open man.

His assist total on the 2020-21 season has Hronek being more than a serviceable option for the Red Wings in the future. Hopefully he can finish out the 2020-21 season strong, add a few points and add that top scorer title to his career resume.

There is not a ton for players to be looking forward to on a rebuilding team, but the confidence boost for Hronek to lead the team has to matter at least a little bit. Again, it may be mostly assists, but it still counts nonetheless.
