The Detroit Tigers spent their second-round selection on catcher Dillon Dingler. The product of the Ohio State University has provided plenty of upside since day one, and he will be a phenomenal catcher for this organization.

Dingler has a lot to like, and the Detroit Tigers’ current catching situation is not going to change too much. With Jake Rogers being the current best option, there is not much. Haase is not a long-term solution as much as it is fun to love the hometown boy.

On the other hand, Grayson Greiner is not too great either, and he has not panned out to be as much of a hitter as the Red Wings would have liked. The Tigers should be investing in Dingler and his future behind the dish.

He possesses exceptional tools, is an excellent athlete overall, and is going to be phenomenal behind the dish as well. With so much to like, it seems like Dingler will be the catcher who has it all click and can be an exceptional talent for this team in the future.

Detroit Tigers catcher Dillon Dingler will be the catcher who has everything “click” for him.

More from Detroit Tigers

The Tigers picked up Dingler, who was nearly a first-rounder, and since then, he has done quite well in the very early stages of his development.

The catcher actually played centerfield during his time with the Buckeyes as well, a testament to his athleticism.

Dingler has hit quite well in 2021; currently stationed with Spencer Torkelson and company on the West Michigan Whitecaps roster.

The catcher will be working through the ranks of the minors; a promotion above High-A may be in his cards sooner than later.

Through 22 games in 2021, Dingler has slashed .280/.394/.561 with six long balls and 16 RBI in total. He has nine extra-base hits and has been a force at the plate. But beyond that, Dingler has done a stellar job behind the dish.

He does well in the receiving part of the game, earning strikes and working well behind the plate. Someone who is a plus-receiver will be a favorite of the pitching staff, so keep an eye on Dingler being a preferred backstop by pitchers along his route to the big leagues.

Beyond that, Dingler does well when it comes to minimizing the opponents on the basepaths. He has a well-above-average arm that lets him hose runners trying to swipe bases. The future is bright for Dingler, and the Tigers will likely see things “click” with the youngster.
