Don’t buy into the rumors stating that the Detroit Pistons love Jalen Green and may trade down in the 2021 NBA Draft.

I can’t say that I am surprised by the rumors, it’s the offseason, and many of us (myself included) are searching for something to talk about.  As you know, rumors are rumors, and some hold more merit than others.  It just takes one verified source with a tidbit of information to start a rumor.

The newest rumor suggests that the Houston Rockets are in love with the consensus first overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, Cade Cunningham.

In other news, water is wet.  Who isn’t in love with such a talented prospect?

More from Detroit Jock City

It’s the first time in 70 years that the Detroit Pistons own the first overall pick. I do not expect general manager (GM) Troy Weaver to even entertain the idea of trading it, regardless of how aggressive Houston becomes.

Shams Charania of The Athletic recently mentioned Houston has been aggressive in their pursuit of the first overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft and is willing to part with veteran guard Eric Gordon.

I’m sorry, but Eric Gordon does absolutely nothing for me at this juncture of Detroit’s rebuild.  The Pistons recently cut the fat buying-out forward Blake Griffin and trading Derrick Rose.

Why on earth would they want to bring in Gordon, who turns 33-years old, on Christmas day?  Also, injuries have limited Gordon over the past two seasons, limiting him to 36 games in 2019-20 and just 27 contests this past season.

When push comes to shove, the Detroit Pistons will select Cade Cunningham first overall.

I do believe these recent rumors are spilling over from before the NBA Lottery results.  The Detroit Pistons needed to be prepared to pick anywhere from picks one thru six.  There are elite players atop of any NBA Draft, and I’m sure Weaver thinks highly of not only Cunningham but also Green, Jalen Suggs, and Evan Mobley.

Again, don’t get caught up in the pre-draft circus.  Cunningham will be a Piston, and the entire landscape of the Detroit Pistons rebuild will be enhanced.

dark. Next. 3 players who benefit most after winning the NBA lottery

The rebuild is about to hit fast forward, people, and it all starts on July 29th when Adam Silver announces that the Detroit Pistons have selected the ultra-talented star guard out of Oklahoma State.
