Detroit Red Wings: 3 players to consider drafting with sixth overall pick
By Tyler Kotila
While the focus of the start of this week is on the Seattle Kraken and the NHL Expansion Draft, the 2021 NHL Entry Draft is fast approaching. The Detroit Red Wings are going to be preparing to make their selections in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft.
The Detroit Red Wings fanbase should be excited. There’s a lot to like with what Steve Yzerman is going to be cooking up. The teams’ general manager has done a lot of excellent drafting in his time in the front office in Hockeytown; he’ll be looking to continue that.
On the other hand, a prime example of what Yzerman is capable of when drafting is the back-to-back Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning. The Red Wings are poised for another successful draft this year, and with two first-round picks, there’s plenty to be excited about.
They have the sixth overall pick in this year’s draft, which was awarded in the 2021 NHL Draft Lottery. There will be plenty of talent, and the Red Wings will be looking at the best options when their pick comes around.
The Red Wings have a plethora of picks, but if the Yzerman rumors have any truth, he’s going to try and push some of that draft capital to further years. Given the scouting issues and predicaments that came with the pandemic, there’s less information available on many of the players.
While this means there will be more diamonds in the rough, it also means fewer “sure-bet” choices. It seemed that Yzerman was more inclined to moving picks, but one of the picks he will 99.9% surely make is the sixth overall pick.
Just two years after taking Moritz Seider and shocking many with the sixth overall pick, he will be picking again in the sixth overall slot. With Moritz Seider and Lucas Raymond each being selected in the past two years, who will be taken this year to add to the trio?
