Reliever José Cisnero

As the 2021 trade deadline continues to get closer and closer, the Detroit Tigers could be shopping bullpen help. While José Cisnero may not be a top-tier reliever, a team that wants a cheap addition might be calling.

Cisnero has been money out of the bullpen for the Tigers, and the success might intrigue a team to pull the trigger on a trade. Even for a low-ceiling prospect who adds depth, moving Cisnero might not be a bad move.

In 2021, Cisnero has appeared in 43 total games where he has logged 39.1 innings pitched for the Tigers. He’s pitched to a 2.97 ERA, a 1.25 WHIP, and punched out 47 opposing hitters in the process.

Cisnero has finished off ten games this season, registering saves in four of those appearances.  He’s been one of the arms that Hinch can trust coming out of the bullpen and has been able to get the job done when he’s called upon.

If the Tigers are going to move a reliever, Cisnero might have the most value. He may be on the wrong side of 30, but he’d be a great depth addition for a team on a budget. The return would not be anything to write home about, but it would likely be a depth move to add prospects to the farm system.

When the trade deadline comes, Cisnero might be on the way out if Avila chooses to explore deals offering relief help to interested teams.
