The Detroit Red Wings have wrapped things up with the draft, filling out the rest of their draft class. Now they are going to be heading into free agency where they will fill out the remainder of the team’s roster.

As the Detroit Red Wings move into free agency on Wednesday, they should be looking to make an impact signing with this year’s group of free agents. The organization should be looking to add an impactful forward to be exact.

While this term treads loosely, impactful for the Red Wings organization is not the same as it is for a team like the Toronto Maple Leafs or Tampa Bay Lightning. The Red Wings should not be going after someone like Gabriel Landeskog or Mike Hoffman.

Instead, the impactful player they should be looking for is going to be a player who fills a role and can truly impact the game on both ends of the ice. Scoring should be viewed as an important benefit.

These guys who slot in as a top-six forward with offensive abilities are going to be the bread and butter, something the Red Wings should be looking for when free agency begins on Wednesday.

The Detroit Red Wings need an impactful forward.

They may not be the most active team on the market, but a signing or two to add some depth to the team’s roster seems to be pretty likely. They may not be adding any top-tier players in free agency, but there’s still room to add an impactful forward.

Here are three impactful forwards the Detroit Red Wings should target in free agency.
