Detroit Red Wings: 5 prospects that fans should be most excited about
By Tyler Kotila
The Detroit Red Wings are building towards a future of winning. The hope is that the team can successfully get through a long rebuild and get back to being an elite franchise as the team was in the late-90s and early-2000s.
With former Detroit Red Wings captain Steve Yzerman at the helm of the organization, things have taken a drastic turn in the right direction. Yzerman has enacted his Yzerplan and started making moves to architect a winning hockey team.
So far, the future looks pretty bright, he’s assembled a team that is going to be competitive in the coming years, and things are starting to look up. The team’s prospects are getting stronger with each draft.
If there’s one major takeaway from Yzerman’s time with the Tampa Bay Lightning, he knows how to draft and knows how to build a roster. The team that he built is back-to-back Stanley Cup Champions with the help of their GM, Julien Brisebois, who has been great in taking over.
But in Hockeytown, it’s all Yzerman and the Yzerplan. There’s plenty of prospects on the way to the NHL slowly but surely and plenty to be excited about. In the coming seasons, these players will likely become familiar faces to Red Wings fans and become mainstays.
They may not all be in the NHL in a year or even two; some still have a road ahead of them. However, they are all players that the Red Wings should be looking forward to watching develop and one day put on the red and white sweater at Little Caesar’s Arena.
