Forward Jonatan Berggren

This might sound shocking, but the fourth prospect on this list is another Swede. The Detroit Red Wings love themselves some Swedish prospects, and Jonatan Berggren is just another Swede that players should be looking forward to watching in the coming years.

He’s a former second-round pick from the Ken Holland era and has finally signed his entry-level contract to join the Red Wings organization. He’s a 5-foot-11, 183-pound winger with a left-handed shot.

Berggren is another one of those forwards who has plenty to like about him and is looking to make a positive transition into North American hockey and segue that into a chance in Hockeytown. Berggren spent 2020-21 in the SHL, where he sort of had a break-out season.

He would play 49 games for Skellefteå AIK, where he had 12 goals and 33 assists for 45 total points. He would also go on to log a goal and seven assists for eight points over 13 games with the Swedish team in International play.

Berggren is a puck control specialist who is going to aim to have success making plays in the offensive zone. He’s smart and able to connect with his teammates on passes, and in 2020-21 over in the SHL, Berggren showed the ability to find the net at times too.

Berggren’s breakout is great for the Red Wings and just another reason that fans should be keeping an eye on the Swedish youngster.
