Detroit Tigers: Renato Núñez deserves an extended look with the team
By Tyler Kotila
The Detroit Tigers have been bitten by the injury bug once again. The number of players on the Injured List (IL) is mounting, meaning there have been plenty of call-ups. Renato Núñez is one of those players who was called up.
Things have not exactly gone in Núñez’s favor in 2021. The Detroit Tigers invited Núñez to Spring Training, where he was later cut and then signed to a minor league deal with the organization. Since then, he has been working for his chances in the big leagues.
Given the team’s current scope of injuries, Núñez has been able to slot into the lineup and look to earn more of a long-term look. Núñez has logged ten games in the big leagues in 2021 and does not have a ton to show for it, but he seems to have a better handle on things in his recent call-up.
Núñez is a player who may not have the highest ceiling, but he has the big-league experience and has shown the ability to drive the ball and show off some pop in his bat. If the Tigers are lucky, Núñez will be able to do this as he gets settled in with the team once again.
The Detroit Tigers should give Renato Núñez a chance.

As the Tigers continue on with their season, Núñez deserves to be kept around as an extra bat, a first baseman, and a designated hitter option.
Núñez has logged ten games in the big leagues in 2021, where he has slashed .205/.244/.564 with four long balls and seven RBI.
While the Tigers have not gotten as much good stuff out of Núñez as they would like, but he still deserves a chance to settle in once again.
Especially with some players being out on the IL and missing time, the Tigers should be able to work Núñez into the lineup.
The hope for Núñez should be that he can be an added power punch for the team.
They have played surprisingly good baseball in 2021, and adding another way to score runs is only going to be beneficial for them.
The Tigers are no postseason squad, but with some changes, it seems like they can be a team on the right side of the .500 mark and giving players like Núñez a shot to be a beneficial member of this team is only going to help them.
Núñez deserves a look and a chance to stick; the Tigers just need to give him a look. Rather than moving him back to the minors seems like it’s not the best for him; giving him a shot will.
