Detroit Lions News: Cornerback Jeffrey Okudah out for the 2021 season
By Tyler Kotila
Detroit Lions news is off to a hot start after week one’s contest. It was announced that cornerback Jeffrey Okudah will miss the remainder of the 2021 season after sustaining a tear in his Achilles. Week one leaves the Lions without their former third overall pick according to Tom Pelissero.
Missing out on the 2021 season is horrible Detroit Lions news to get this early in the season but Okudah’s injury is going to keep him off the field for the remainder of the season. It appears as though Okudah ruptured his Achilles during the fourth quarter of Sunday’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
While the NFL has not been the kindest to him, Okudah was hoping to bounce back in 2021 and put on quite the showing as he carves out his role in the NFL. Now, with a season-ending injury, it makes you wonder if he can truly ever live up to being the player that he was expected to be.
With an injury in 2020 that put a damper on things, he has struggled to remain healthy and for his own sake of carving out a career in the NFL, it sucks. He was expected to be a top-tier cornerback and top-flight talent in the NFL but has not shown that. Injuries have played a role in that, but it still leaves plenty to the imagination.

The Lions were hoping that Okudah would come out of camp strong and parlay that into a strong season. Instead, he will spend it on the sidelines, hoping to get closer to a return for the 2022 season.
Given Okudah’s absence, guys like Amani Oruwariye, Nickell Robey-Coleman are going to have to step it up as veterans. Younger talent like A.J. Parker Ifeatu Melifonwu will also be on the hot seat to step up their game.
Best of luck to Okudah as he embarks on the road to recovery.
