As the Detroit Red Wings continue to move closer to the start of the 2021-22 season, there are going to be plenty of players to watch this season. This season should be a much better one for the Red Wings.

The Detroit Red Wings may not be a playoff team, and they may not even reach the .500 mark, but my bet would be that they get near it. They should be a better team than in 2020-21 and continue to take steps in the right direction.

Think of it like the Red Wings counterparts who play over at Comerica Park. The Tigers may not have crossed the .500 mark, but they certainly looked better and were plenty more fun to watch for fans in the summer of 2021.

The same is going to go for the Red Wings in 2021-22; they will be a more fun team to watch, a lot more pleasant, and hopefully keeping games closer. While this could change, and two months into the season, I will be banging the “Tank for first overall” drum, my thoughts are different for now.

The way it seems and the way the roster presents itself, this team should be better than they have been in prior years. That being said, they should be more fun to watch and ultimately a more well-rounded hockey team.

The Red Wings are in the hands of Steve Yzerman, who is fully engulfed in the Yzerplan, as fans call it. To be clear, I am 100% bought into the Yzerplan, and I think any fan of the Red Wings should be too.

But that being said, there are a lot of new faces to like on this Red Wings roster. There will be a few that fans should keep an eye on, in particular, to see what happens this season.

Here are five Detroit Red Wings that fans should watch in 2021-22.
