Michigan State Football secures 37-33 victory over Michigan Football
By Tyler Kotila
It was an overcast day, as per usual, in East Lansing for the rivalry matchup between Michigan State Football and Michigan Football. The Spartans looked to defend their Paul Bunyan trophy and were successful in doing so.
Michigan State Football would lock down a 37-33 victory over Harbaugh and the Wolverines in Saturday’s matchup. It really was an up-and-down matchup throughout the entire game. Both sides fanbases had several heart attacks.
However, Kenneth Walker III would go on to run all over the place, channeling his inner Barry Sanders, helping Mel Tucker and the Spartans to a victory. Wolverines’ top defender Aidan Hutchinson was effective, but when the Spartans did neutralize him, Walker III showed why he’s going to be in the Heisman talks.
Both teams made mistakes, both teams had some great plays, but ultimately some costly late-game mistakes would lead to the Wolverines demise. Even after having a phenomenal game, it was Cade McNamara, whose late-game interception would seal the deal for the Spartans.
Michigan State Football claimed victory over Michigan Football in East Lansing.
Walker III quite literally ran all over the Wolverines. He would finish the day with 23 carries, 195 yards, and five, yes five, touchdowns. His Heisman chances went through the roof from this game.
On the other side, McNamara did piece together quite the game and looked great out of the gate. He would finish the game 28/44 with 383 yards, two touchdowns, and the costly late-game interception.
The Spartans victory will move then to 8-0 on the season. The Wolverines loss moves them to 7-1 and ends their hopes for an undefeated season. Both Mel Tucker and Jim Harbaugh have plenty of coaching rumors circling and after this game, people were already talking.
The rumors of Tucker to Louisiana State University were flying as soon as the Spartans sealed their victory and kept the Paul Bunyan Trophy in East Lansing. The #FireHarbaugh tweets were flying as well.
Many fans seemed puzzled with the move to put in freshman JJ McCarthy. There were rumors that McNamara was in the sideline tent prompting the move, either way, there was plenty of the maize and blue faithful that were ready with pitchforks to meet Harbaugh following the loss.
But, on the eve of Halloween, the Spartans will remain in the custody of the Paul Bunyan trophy and let the couches burn across the streets of campus.
