In light of Halloween being today, I thought that looking ahead at the free-agent class might be worth doing. There are some fun names, and there are some players who are scary and should be avoided by the Detroit Tigers organization.

As the Detroit Tigers organization starts to piece together what they want to do this offseason in terms of player acquisition, looking at free agents will be key. There are some players who are “tricks” and should be on the list of players to avoid.

Some of these players are even ones who produced some of the better seasons in 2021. But looks can be deceiving, and they can sometimes lead teams to hand out money on some horrible contracts.

If there’s one thing the Tigers have done in the past, it has been handing out money on the wrong types of contracts, and they have gotten burned for it. It may not be as bad as Ken Holland and some of his horrid contracts later in his Detroit Red Wings tenure, but there were undoubtedly some poor choices made.

So looking ahead to the 2021 free agency class, they need to be smart with their spending and ensure that they get the most value possible.

The Tigers need to find the treats of this year’s free-agent class and avoid the tricks. This Halloween, the Tigers should look at these three players and view them as “scary” and someone who should be avoided.
