The Detroit Red Wings are continuing to break through the start of the 2021-22 season. They opted to carry German rookie Moritz Seider on their roster coming out of training camp, and it has really paid off.

It’s early, but the Detroit Red Wings have seen their rookie defender find ways to break records and establish himself as one of the up-and-coming youngsters to be excited about for this fanbase. He surpassed former Red Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom with his eighth point of the 2021-22 campaign as a rookie.

He now stands as one of the organization’s leading point-getters through the season’s first ten games. It’s one incredible thing for the Red Wings youngster, and it’s only the beginning. The Red Wings have a lot to look forward to with Seider.

I will say that I undersold Seider and was not as high on him as others when he was selected back in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. I thought Seider would amount to be a good defenseman, but I never saw this success coming. However, water will find its level, though I hope that Seider can keep this up.

Detroit Red Wings prospect Moritz Seider is on fire early on in his career.

Starting things off in 2021-22, Seider has been able to add eight assists over nine games played which helped him grab the record and surpass Lidstrom, as mentioned above. It’s been a hot start, and the young defender has looked like he could continue to be an extreme aid to this team’s future.

My prediction and comparison for Seider’s high-end were Victor Hedman, and that still seems like it could be accurate, but it looks a lot more likely than the undersold valuation I had for him. But at the same time, it has only been nine games.

The start that Seider has had is exciting. Even if he plateaus out a little, he will be a vital part of this organization’s future and the defensive core. In the future, Seider is likely going to be the team’s top defender and is going to have some sort of leadership with this team.

While my initial reaction was not as excited and bought in, after watching the success and development that Seider had overseas, snowballing into this hot start, it’s hard not to like him.

Seider looks comfortable on the ice; he’s throwing the body around and bringing the same level of physicality that he has shown time and time again. He’s even been a part of the team’s powerplay and has demonstrated the ability to make things happen and create scoring chances.

For the Red Wings fanbase, let’s hope the organizations’ prized defender continues to take the league by storm.
