The Detroit Red Wings are cruising along through the 2021-22 season, looking like a much better team than they have in quite some time. It’s been a team that has found ways to score goals and keep themselves in games night in and night out.

Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin has stepped up in 2021-22. Even after missing time for personal reasons, he has come back and been on a tear as of late. Larkin’s week-long absence from the team was not ideal and tough for Larkin himself, but he has come back swinging.

It may not be out of this world, but it’s good to see the team’s captain finding ways onto the scoresheet and making things happen. It bodes well for the rest of the players in this offense and the future of this team if Larkin can continue to score and find a way to motivate the guys around him.

Since returning, Larkin has played in five games for the Red Wings, where he has four goals and an assist to his credit. In his first game back, he was almost able to add another, but a rolling puck slipped away from him as he had an empty net after beating the Golden Knights netminder with a fore-hand to back-hand move.

Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin has been on a tear since returning.

Larkin has now played in 13 games on the season, where he has seven goals and six assists for 13 total points for the Red Wings. With these numbers, Larkin is already closing in on last year’s goal total of nine and continues to steadily move towards his point total of 23 from last year’s 56-game sprint season.

Do not forget that Larkin only logged 44 of those 56 games after Jamie Benn decided to beat Larkin into the ground and cause him to wind up on the Injured Reserve (IR) due to the cheap shot. The Red Wings have had to get creative with scoring in past years, and this year it seems like the script has finally flipped.

With Larkin finding ways to get the puck into the back of the net, the Red Wings should be far better off than they have been. While it’s just one player, it’s good to see him having success and being able to help put some life into this offense.

The Red Wings have been able to see Larkin settle in nicely since returning to the lineup; the question will be if he can continue to find success as the season continues.
