The Detroit Tigers offseason is underway, and they have already been active in the free-agent market. But someone that the Tigers have been looking to add in trades for years is now easily attainable.

The New York Yankees have placed outfielder Clint Frazier on release waivers with the goal of removing him from the roster and sending him to free agency. Frazier has since been designated for assignment, and the Detroit Tigers can get their guy.

It’s been a few years, and whenever the Detroit Tigers are shopping Michael Fulmer or Matthew Boyd, they seem to be looking to get Frazier on the return side of the deal. Unfortunately for them, they never were able to swing a deal.

But the good news for the Tigers now is that they could easily get him as a free agent. The Tigers need to pounce on this opportunity if they want to add him into the mix of outfielders that will be there in 2022.

The Detroit Tigers can get Clint Frazier if they truly want him.

In the summer of 2021, Clint Frazier would play in 66 games for the Yankees, where he slashed .186/.317/.317. It may not be the prettiest of stat lines for the 26-year old outfielder, but the Tigers have been interested in him for years.

The Tigers are now in a position to add a player into the mix and replace Victor Reyes if that is indeed what they are hoping to do. He may not be the most exciting option for the Tigers, but if they are deciding between a new body in Frazier and Reyes, why not see if a new environment helps Frazier.

Frazier has shown tools at times. In the shortened 2020 season, Frazier was able to slash .267/.394/.511 over 39 games played with 15 extra-base hits and 26 total RBI. So it’s not to say that there is no upside with Frazier, but he’s not going to be the Tigers version of Aaron Judge.

If the Tigers are looking to make a move and throw someone else into the mix of outfielders, Frazier is undoubtedly someone to consider. The Tigers may not have the most exciting group of outfielders coming to the big leagues after Riley Greene.

With Daz Cameron and Derek Hill going to be fighting for playing time, adding someone like Frazier is worth exploring, especially since the Tigers were so interested in adding Frazier at times over the past few seasons.
