Michigan football‘s Aidan Hutchinson was named a Heisman finalist. Michigan first Heisman finalist since Jabrill Peppers attended the ceremony in 2016.

The Heisman Trophy ceremony is on Saturday night. Hutchinson will be joined by Alabama quarterback Bryce Young, Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud, and Pittsburgh quarterback Kenny Pickett.

Hutchinson has had an outstanding 2021 season. He finished the regular season as the Big Ten sacks leader and averages 1.08 sacks per game. Despite being double-teamed almost every snap, his stats are as follows; 58 tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss, 14 sacks, three pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery.

According to PFF College, Hutchinson is the highest-graded defensive player. He had 73 total pressures this season. He had 15 pressures against Ohio State, which was the most ever since PFF started keeping track of the stat in 2014.

Michigan Football’s Aidan Hutchinson was named a Heisman Finalist.

Hutchinson was named first-team All-Big Ten earlier this month as well as Big Ten defensive player of the year and Big Ten defensive lineman of the year. He also won MVP in the Big Ten Championship game as the Wolverines defeated Iowa 42-3.

Hutchinson recorded three sacks against the Buckeyes in the 42-27 victory that sent the Wolverines to the Big Ten Championship game. That day, the first sack came in the first quarter; it was his 11th sack of the season, which tied his father’s single-season sack record set in 1992. After two more sacks in The Game, Aidan Hutchinson became Michigan’s single-season sack leader with 13.

Aidan Hutchinson has been projected to go number one overall in the 2022 NFL Draft by multiple members of the media when doing mock drafts. The argument for number one overall is between him and Oregon defensive lineman, Kayvon Thibodeaux.

After getting hurt in the 2020 season, Hutchinson chose to come back to the University of Michigan to change the narrative and his legacy as a Wolverine. He has accomplished those goals, but I doubt he is done as Michigan will play Georgia in the College Football Playoff semifinal.
