Detroit Red Wings: Moritz Seider benefitting from power-play experience
By Tyler Kotila
The Detroit Red Wings are continuing to try and prove people wrong and play some meaningful games when March and April roll around, according to Dylan Larkin. But at the same time, they are watching their prospects continue to develop.
One of the things that the Detroit Red Wings have been doing well is allowing Moritz Seider to develop and slot into these primetime roles. He has certainly been earning his chances as well; he belongs in the positions that he’s been in, and special teams is one of them.
Seider has been made a part of the team’s revamped power-play for the 2021-22 season, and it’s looked like it was an incredible decision for the Red Wings so far. When the team brought in Alex Tanguay to take over the team’s power-play units, things have looked better than the abysmal efforts of last year.
The Red Wings have seen Seider emerge as one of the quarterbacks for the power-play, which has been incredibly beneficial for him and for the Red Wings. They’re grooming their future version of Duncan Keith to be a part of the power-play unit, and Seider is getting these crucial reps in.
Detroit Red Wings Moritz Seider is benefitting from power-play chances.
Seider has taken the league by storm and looks like he is going to be a heck of an addition to the team’s group of defensemen. The former first-rounder that shocked many fans will continue to get better, and he’s shown that he’s going to be good thus far.
Through 29 games of the 2021-22 season, Seider has three goals and 17 assists to his credit for 20 total points. He’s not only leading the team’s defenseman in offensive production but also is third on the team in points.
It’s great to see him out on the ice making plays and looking like quite the addition by Steve Yzerman. When it comes to the power-play, Seider is looking quite comfortable when the team gets set up in the offensive zone.
He’s usually stationed at the top of the zone and has shown that he’s developing a good sense of patience and poise. Whether it’s waiting for the right chance to move the puck or being deliberate with his passing, Seider has looked like he’s benefitting as a player overall.
The team still has work to do on the power-play as a whole, but they are not the very depths of the league like they were last year, and Seider himself has been benefitting from his time on the power-play, and that’s pretty apparent.
Overall, Seider is settling in nicely, and it looks like he is going to continue to be a force for the team’s defense.
