The Detroit Red Wings are 16-16-4 at the time of writing and pushing to stay above .500 as the weeks roll on. One of the bright spots for their roster this season has been netminder Alex Nedeljkovic who is continuing to show why he’s such an asset.

As the Detroit Red Wings move forward, they need to realize that Nedeljkovic is someone they can rely on as a steady number one as time goes on. This season there has been a good split between Nedeljkovic and Thomas Greiss as the backup in this situation.

He’s been a bright spot in this Red Wings season where goaltending is finally not one of the biggest issues the team has. It was a shock when the Red Wings acquired Nedeljkovic in the trade with the Carolina Hurricanes, but it was a pleasant surprise.

The Red Wings did a great job acquiring Nedeljkovic and then turning around to sign him to a quality contract extension. It’s worked out quite nicely, and the Red Wings have a netminder they can count on.

Detroit Red Wings goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic is a savior for them.

For those who watched the horrible first period from the recent Red Wings game against the Los Angeles Kings, Nedeljkovic showed why he’s such an asset. Even though the Red Wings allowed two goals in the first, he would face 28 shots.

It’s hard to think that Nedeljkovic should be expected to be flawless there. The Red Wings’ poor performance in front of him is what the issue was. However, the Red Wings have gotten a lot from Nedeljkovic.

The Red Wings are getting a ton out of him, and it’s only the first year of his extension. Nedeljkovic has played in 24 games where he has 21 starts. He has a 10-9-3 record with a .915 save percentage and a 2.86 goals-against average.

He’s looked like that type of netminder the Red Wings have been in search of. When it comes to the Red Wings, it’s been a torture of a few years for whoever was in the crease between Jimmy Howard, Jonathan Bernier, and Thomas Greiss.

But, Nedeljkovic has shown that he will keep the Red Wings in games. He’s the clear best option for the Red Wings moving forward. As the Red Wings continue to move forward and get past the rebuild, expect them to continue to turn to Nedeljkovic.
