The Detroit Red Wings are proving that Robby Fabbri has been one of the best decisions the organization has made in recent years. General Manager (GM) Steve Yzerman sent Justin de La Rose to the St. Louis Blues in exchange for the former first-round pick.

Looking back, the trade brought the Detroit  Red Wings a new player and allowed them to kickstart his career once again. Fabbri has done great since getting back in the lineup, and the Red Wings should be pleased with his performance since being acquired.

Fabbri has been rewarded, too, for his breakout performance with the Red Wings. He’s got a three-year extension that carries a $4 million cap hit that kicks in next season and runs for three years after that.

It’s looked like quite an excellent decision for the Red Wings. They gave up nearly nothing, and Fabbri has proven he’s going to be a mainstay for the offense moving forward, and he’s continuing to prove that throughout the 2021-22 season.

Detroit Red Wings Robby Fabbri has been an exceptional addition.

Throughout the 2021-22 season for the Red Wings, Fabbri has played in 40 games where he has 11 goals and seven assists for 18 total points. This ties his 18 points in 30 games from the shortened 2020-21 season.

While last year he dealt with some struggles of COVID-19 keeping him off the ice, he still found ways to get the job done when he was getting his playing time. The Red Wings are hoping that he can keep cruising during the 2021-22 season and continue to put up points.

He was getting pretty lucky during the 2021-22 season, which may account for his point-per-game differential between last year and this year. It seems like he can continue to slot into the Red Wings lineup night in and night out, pushing to try and be a scoring threat.

While he’s a speedy guy who can make things happen in the offensive zone, the Red Wings have plugged him in multiple places. Trying to find the best spot for him has been a work in progress, even though his production has not quite faltered.

The Red Wings adding in Fabbri when he was acquired was a blessing for this team. While he may not be a 40-goal scorer, he’s become a prominent face in the lineup. Fabbri adds plenty of value to the Red Wings roster, and it all comes because of a change in scenery.
